All Your Datastores In One Place – Now In ControlUp

Up until now, Datastores were shown in the ControlUp real-time console as collective aggregated data via the host, displaying the high level, collective information. With the introduction of ControlUp V7, the real-time console has a brand new detailed view for Datastores, showing all the Datastores as individual objects, complete with live metrics and metadata. The result is a broad picture of all the storage components as a continuous flow in the ControlUp tradition – intuitive, actionable, with quick and easy drill down options anywhere you click.

But that’s not all – other than delivering real-time metrics for each datastore, we also show live metrics for all the vDisks (or VMDK) and Logical Disks, giving you a complete, holistic view of the various layers of the storage in your virtual environment, and all in a single window pane.

Each object allows you to easily set triggers and alerts according to your chosen thresholds and also run script based actions against each object. Stress levels which are defined in the ControlUp console can be configured in order to change the sensitivity and tweak your alerts and notifications.

Having everything in one easy ControlUp console makes your life so much easier – no more juggling between different windows, you’ll see a clear, fluid view of all the storage components all consolidated in one place and easily accessible. You’re in the driver’s seat.

Seeing is believing!  See this short video of the new Datastores view.

Datastores

What’s In It For Me?

  • See your busiest disks, troubleshoot storage related performance issues from different perspectives. Create triggers to get alerts and notifications – which translates to proactive management.
  • Balance the workload on your datastores correctly to ensure better performance.
  • Know when the free space is running low on your logical disks.
  • Full continuous view of all your datastores on a single real time grid.
  • Visualization is the key – you can see everything in one place, quickly sort and identify issues fast. The ability to drill down to the process layer is a big advantage.
  • The Datastores views Allow you to quickly identify “the noisy neighbor problem” which happens when one of the your VMs becomes noisy, demanding more than its share of storage performance, slowing down its neighbors and throwing the entire Datastore into chaos.
  • Unexpected slowdowns in your environment can sometimes happen due to storage latency issues, with reports not coming back as quickly as expected; often, you may get complaints that “the network is slow”. ControlUp can then show you if a noisy neighbor or neighbors is actually the problem.
  • With the datastores view, you can create triggers to send notifications when the free space is running low on your Datastores, especially when utilizing thin provisioning for VMs, which is critical for keeping them up and running.
