Amazon WorkSpacesDigital Employee Experience (DEX)

At ControlUp, we’re constantly advancing to give IT teams unparalleled visibility and control over their digital employee experience (DEX). We’re excited to announce our latest advancements that revolutionize DEX management with full support for Amazon WorkSpaces.

The Modern Workplace Demands a Deeper Look

Cloud-delivered virtual desktops like Amazon WorkSpaces are now critical for the flexible, secure, and productive remote work environments businesses need. While Amazon provides robust and scalable infrastructure, you, the customer, are responsible for the user experience and performance. This is where ControlUp steps in, bridging the gap between infrastructure and user interaction. ControlUp empowers your IT teams to take full ownership of the Amazon WorkSpaces desktop, giving you the intelligence to master everything from endpoint devices to the WorkSpaces environment itself.

Understanding Amazon WorkSpaces

Amazon WorkSpaces is a flexible Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) solution that delivers virtual, cloud-based Windows desktops to meet various organizational needs. For shift workers, WorkSpaces Pools offer non-persistent desktops that refresh with each login. For knowledge workers, WorkSpaces Personal provides persistent desktops that retain user data and applications. Additionally, Amazon WorkSpaces includes AppStream 2.0 and WorkSpaces Core for more traditional Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) requirements, supporting integrations with solutions like Citrix and Omnissa.

How Amazon WorkSpaces and ControlUp Work Together

While AWS manages the compute, memory, and networking as part of its Shared Responsibility Model, ControlUp complements this by providing robust monitoring and management tools specifically within the Amazon WorkSpaces environment. This helps customers actively monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize the end-user experience and application performance within WorkSpaces desktops, addressing their shared responsibility for operational excellence.

ControlUp Support for Amazon WorkSpaces Personal and Pools

ControlUp for Desktops now offers three flexible scenarios to support Amazon WorkSpaces:

  • WorkSpaces DEX: Deploy the ControlUp agent directly on your Amazon WorkSpaces desktop for comprehensive, real-time DEX monitoring, troubleshooting, and automated remediation.
  • WorkSpaces DEX with Basic Client Metrics: Combine the ControlUp agent on your WorkSpaces desktop with a lightweight ControlUp Real-Time DX extension on the client device. This provides essential monitoring, troubleshooting, and remediation for the entire end-to-end solution.
  • WorkSpaces DEX with Client DEX: For the most robust monitoring, place a ControlUp agent on both the Amazon WorkSpaces desktop and the client desktop. This delivers rich, end-to-end monitoring, troubleshooting, and automated remediation for the complete end-user experience.
