ControlUp’s Response to the CrowdStrike’s Global Outage

ControlUp Real-Time DX

Please check https://status.controlup.com/ for the latest status on ControlUp’s service interruption.

What happened:

Late on July 18, 2024, a widespread outage impacted a significant number of physical and virtual Windows machines across the globe. The root cause of this issue is related to a Falcon Sensor update that was rolled out by CrowdStrike. CrowdStrike has provided customers with a fix and has also provided instructions for a workaround in case the fix doesn’t work.

How was ControlUp affected:

Since ControlUp uses CrowdStrike Falcon, some parts of our platform were affected by this outage, causing service disruption for some of our customers.

The ControlUp services that were affected are:

  • ControlUp Real-Time DX for VDI & DaaS
  • ControlUp Remote DX

Other services, including Edge DX, Secure DX and our synthetic monitoring tool, Scoutbees, were not affected.

How did we respond:

From the moment the first alerts came in notifying us of a degradation of our service around 04:30 UTC, we mobilized our Urgent Response teams to find the root cause of the issues and implement a fix.

At the time of posting this, we have addressed all of the issues affecting our service and we will continue to monitor the results.

What affected customers should do:

While our cloud services are 100% operational, customers are advised to restart their on-premises ControlUp Monitor servers. If assistance is needed with this, please contact your customer account team or open a support ticket through our portal by signing in at https://help.controlup.com/
