New in ControlUp Disk Monitor: Track File Writes to FSLogix and Citrix UPM Profiles

ControlUp Innovation Guild

Ever asked yourself:

  • “Why is my FSLogix profile ballooning?”
  • “What’s causing slow logons or profile load times?”
  • “Where’s all this data in the profile coming from?”

ControlUp has the answers, and we are giving away the tool for free.

With the latest update to ControlUp Disk Monitor, we’ve added deep visibility into file writes inside FSLogix and Citrix UPM profiles, including:

  • Full path to the profile-mounted file
  • The username associated with the profile
  • The process writing to it
  • Amount of data written

No more guessing why profiles take long to load, you’ll know what is writing where, and why your profiles are growing, misbehaving, or slowing down.

Why This Matters

Profile-related disk issues are notoriously hard to troubleshoot:

  • A single background process can flood a profile container with logs or temp files
  • Poorly coded apps can dump cache into AppData\Local
  • Large downloads can land inside the profile and trigger sync or load delays
  • Unwanted profile bloat can lead to Citrix write cache exhaustion, logon delays, or profile load failures

Free for Everyone

This new version of the ControlUp Disk Monitor is available for everyone! You don’t even need to be a customer of ControlUp. Just go to the download center and download your copy. We have included an analyze log script in the installation folder “C:\ProgramData\ControlUp\DiskMonitor\Disk-Monitor-Analyze-Script.ps1” for anyone to directly use on your machine!

Real-World Use Cases

Find the culprit behind FSLogix profile bloat

  • Daily reports show which files inside the profile (e.g. AppData\Roaming, AppData\Local\Temp, Downloads) are receiving the most writes—with the process name and user tied to them.

Troubleshoot slow profile load times

  • Excessive writes to FSLogix containers can slow down login and logout processes. Now you’ll know which background services or apps are to blame.

Clean up unnecessary file writes in Citrix UPM

  • Gain the visibility needed to adjust exclusions, redirects, or GPOs by seeing exactly what’s being written and where.

How It Works

No configuration is needed. If you’re running ControlUp Disk Monitor with the latest build, you’ll automatically begin seeing:

  • Profile-based file writes in your daily reports
  • Paths inside mounted FSLogix VHD(X) containers or UPM folders
  • Usernames and process names responsible for the writes
  • All data remains local by default, with optional masking for privacy-conscious environments.
