Once you authenticated, you had rights assigned. These rights could be administrative rights that allow you to remotely access a machine’s file system, query it for data using technologies like WMI, and more. This is all possible because of the trust and rights relationship that Active Directory provides. Software like ControlUp leverages these capabilities to make things like deploying the ControlUp agent secure, fast, and easy.
However, Entra ID environments don’t have an Active Directory they can query to see if some remote user has the rights to execute some action. This means upgrading the ControlUp agent remotely can fail in Entra ID-only environments
Thankfully, the ControlUp ONE platform excels in providing ways to automate things, and in this case, I have written a Script Action to provide our customers a new way to perform upgrades in non-domain scenarios.
This Script Action has been released to the ControlUp Community Script Library and, beyond upgrading the ControlUp agent on standalone machines, it gives another ability: ControlUp administrators can now upgrade the ControlUp for VDI agent from the web console.
At ControlUp, we released a PowerShell module to assist in DevOp scenarios so that way our software can be rolled out in a automated fashion. This PowerShell module provides the ability to upgrade the agent, which this script action uses. Each step of the script is output which is automatically saved to the Audit Log for review.
Quick. Fast. Simple. Effective.
Whether your environment is a pure Entra ID, hybrid joined or something else entirely, ControlUp has you covered! Try it today.
