Automating Sustainability Reporting Across Your End-User Computing Estate

New functionality is now available for all ControlUp ONE customers, automating the measurement and reporting on Scope 2 and Scope 3 carbon emissions across end-user computing (EUC) estates.

From Partnership to Automation

Earlier this year, ControlUp partnered with Px3®, a leader in sustainable ICT research and consulting. This collaboration gave IT teams the ability to measure, report, and reduce the environmental impact of EUC devices through real-time carbon footprint tracking.

Leveraging real-time telemetry collected by ControlUp and securely transmitted to Px3®, organizations can generate reports for key devices, including desktops, laptops, and displays. These reports can cover both:

  • Scope 2 emissions – based on location-specific electricity usage
  • Scope 3 emissions – derived from supply chain data, including embodied carbon and e-waste impact

New One-Click Reporting

Today, ControlUp and Px3® are proud to announce an important update that further simplifies the process of carbon footprint reporting. New APIs automate the entire reporting process, eliminating any manual data extraction and waiting. Instant carbon footprint reports can be produced at the click of a button, and this feature is now available for all ControlUp ONE customers at no additional cost.

For ControlUp ONE customers, an updated ‘Sustainability icon’ within the platform will trigger an instant report request.

Behind the scenes, the real-time telemetry already collected by ControlUp (seen below, in the ‘devices’ view) is processed by Px3®, and a full sustainability report is delivered to your inbox within minutes.

How The Technology Works

ControlUp already collects the critical telemetry required for sustainability reporting, including:

  • Manufacturer
  • Model Number
  • Location

With the new configuration screen (available under DEX Settings), admins can:

  • Set currency preferences for the report
  • Define the device refresh cycle for accurate lifecycle analysis
  • Specify report recipients

Configuration is a one-time setup. After that, click the Sustainability button, and your report is automatically generated. It will be delivered directly to your inbox!

Beyond Reporting: Why It Matters

Automated carbon reporting isn’t just about operational efficiency. It’s about compliance and corporate responsibility, reaching directly into the digital workplace. At ControlUp, we believe that optimizing the digital employee experience (DEX) should never come at the expense of our planet.

With one click sustainability reporting, IT leaders can turn insights into action to:

  • Reduce Energy Costs: Optimize device power settings and pinpoint inefficient hardware to significantly lower electricity bills.
  • Extend Device Lifecycles: Use performance data to refresh only when necessary, reducing e-waste and hardware spend.
  • Empower Employees: Share data that highlights the collective impact of device usage, promoting a culture of sustainability and encouraging responsible habits.

The pressure to measure, report, and reduce environmental impact is growing rapidly. Frameworks like the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) demand accurate, auditable emissions data tracked under the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). Gartner estimates 50,000 companies within the EU will need to comply with CSRD regulations by 2028, making this integrated capability a need rather than a nice-to-have.

Built directly into the ControlUp ONE platform, carbon footprint reports generated by Px3® keep you compliant while providing deep visibility into the environmental impact of your EUC devices. They can be seamlessly incorporated into corporate sustainability reports while informing IT strategies for reducing emissions.

Fast, accurate, and effortless, automated reporting is empowering IT to be lead their organization’s environmental initiatives and ESG commitments.
