About seven months ago, we launched our Windows 11 Readiness Report to track adoption trends as organizations prepare for Windows 10’s official end-of-life on October 14, 2025. At the time, we knew the transition to Windows 11 would be a major shift for businesses, requiring careful planning, hardware upgrades, and IT resources to ensure a smooth migration and minimal disruptions to end user experience. Now, with just seven months left, the pressure is mounting.
So, how far have we come? How much progress has been made in getting devices off Windows 10 and onto Windows 11? And what challenges still stand in the way?
The Current State of Windows 11 Migration
Previously, we surveyed 750,000 devices, and in the seven months since, we’ve expanded our survey to 1,100,000 Windows endpoints, so there is a much larger sample size. In our initial report, 88% of devices were ready to move to Windows 11 per their hardware readiness. An interesting trend is these numbers have maintained pretty consistently even as organizations migrate. As of this writing, the number of devices that are ready to move to Windows 11 is 87%, with 13% needing replacement. And this is excluding the number of machines that have migrated to Windows 11, which has grown significantly. I think the implication here is that devices requiring replacement are being brought out of circulation at nearly the same relative rate that devices are being migrated.
When we started tracking this data, the number of devices that had migrated to Windows 11 was 18% on and today it sits at 39%. This is a huge increase in the total number of devices that have migrated to Windows 11!
Intriguingly, the operating system market share figures nearly mirror what StatCounter (a web traffic analysis service) reports, with a Windows 11 market share of 38%.
Looking Forward to Windows 10 End-of-Life
With just 7 months left until Windows 10 reaches its official end-of-life, the urgency to migrate to Windows 11 has never been greater. While adoption rates are steadily increasing, the challenge remains: ensuring that every organization is prepared for the transition before time runs out.
Our latest data shows clear progress but also highlights a critical gap—many devices are still holding out on Windows 10, and older, incompatible hardware continues to linger in circulation. As businesses plan their next steps, now is the time to accelerate migration efforts, retire outdated devices, and ensure a seamless transition before the October 14, 2025 deadline.
